Edamame

De-leafed the plant to reveal all the beans

Edamame

A single plant produced an amazing amount of beans

Can't wait to boil and salt them!

Beans Galore

6 week old Tendergreen bush bean flowers.

7 week old teenage Tendergreen Bush bean.

8 week old Blue Lake Bush beans. Bountiful :D

3.5 week old Asparagus Yard Long bean.

5 week old fuzzy Edamame bean.

8 week old adzuki bean has babies.

Bean Bee

Bumblebees have recently taken quite a liking to my potted bean plants. They latch on to their chosen bean and don't let go for hours even when my camera is an inch away from their fuzzy heads. Is this natural?!!

Overcrowding

The peas are invading the carrot-beet plots. It's a weekly chore to detach some of the tendrils from the tall carrot leaves. On a side note: yes, sweet peas! Oh nom nom.

Five days ago the tomatoes looked like they were ready to push the beans off the "balcony."

Today, the tomatoes are succeeding in doing just that. I sense the beginning of a turf war.

The mesclun plot doesn't look too bad after moving several seedlings in between the broccoli and cauliflower plants.

Bean Biceps

He never forgets to kiss each of them good night.

Adzuki heart

Adzuki bean leaf hearts you.

Bean sprouting

According to "The Edible Asian Garden," beans will sprout in a week or so. Isn't this neat?
On a side note, this picture is a bit deceiving. I drained the water after snapping this shot and placed the jar in a dark shelf. The seeds need to be rinsed two to three times a day. It has been less than a day and the seeds have already poofed up!

Beans and peas

According to "Growing Chinese Vegetables," by Geri Harrington, Asian beans and seeds can grow into beautiful, productive plants. When I realized what that meant, I quickly slipped my reusable bag and wallet into my pocket and headed out to the closest Asian supermarket where I scooped a couple of beans into little baggies. I got red (adzuki) beans, green (mung) beans and sesame seeds. I placed them in between wet coffee filters and waited patiently for them to germinate - and germinate they did! It took almost a week for that to happen but whatever. It's pretty chilly in my house, so I can't blame them for being a little slow. They're currently napping in their new peat pellet beds. I can't wait for leaves to appear :D

They're store-bought seeds that are supposed to be for consumption, not growth, so I'm thrilled that the seeds are alive. Hopefully they will grow into real plants, not some mutant version of their parents.

Harvest slowing down

Aside from the Tiny Tims, nothing else in the garden has been screaming EAT ME!

Eggplant looking rather dull and unhappy

Collected only 7 bean seeds. Hope at least one will sprout

Basket harvest

Veggiebasket: lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes, beans and zucchini. Talk about a productive harvest : ) Got the handy wicker basket from my cousin's garage sale

Toperbasket. For some odd reason only one out of several dozen chili peppers turned red. Hope the ones I left alone will ripen soon

Mystery peas

Fiona's mother gave me these mystery peas to take care of before she left for her month long vacation.

After only a few weeks in the field, peas began to appear

Not sure what type they are

Purple and green peas. Or are they beans? Podded vegetables are not my speciality, so I have no idea.
