It blends in so well with the surrounding environment
Bumblebees have recently taken quite a liking to my potted bean plants. They latch on to their chosen bean and don't let go for hours even when my camera is an inch away from their fuzzy heads. Is this natural?!!
For the longest time I couldn't figure out what was happening to the disappearing slug/snail bait. It seemed like the slugs/snails were consuming the bait, but they continued to live and prosper on my leafy vegetables. Maybe the bait wasn't as effective as the company claimed? Or there were more slugs/snails than I thought? Then I realized what was really going on...
Turns out tiny, reddish brown ants were feverishly collecting the bait. They didn't leave one single bait left on the ground.
Talk about team work!
These little guys were never a nuisance; actually, they provided both my niece and myself hours of entertainment much like the rolypoly sowbugs that excelled at faking their deaths and fuzzy bumblebees that have a weird habit of attaching themselves to the side of my house. There are only two or three harmless colonies, so I'm leaving them alone for now. Now I have to set out several bowls of alcohol in the ground to contain the slug/snail problem. I feel queasy just thinking about their gruesome deaths.

I was reaching into the mini greenhouse to water some of the hidden seedlings when...
...AHH, a wasp and it's building a hive! I stood there screaming until my dad came out with a broom and boldly knocked it out of the greenhouse. The wasp quickly buzzed away without harming anyone. Now I feel kind of bad for ruining its little home.
My backyard is emitting an archaeological feel : D

So it turns out that the funny shaped eggplant really is a Rosa Bianca eggplant, not a black Beauty. It's all good though because this eggplant looks great!

Oh, it's those cursed slugs
For the longest time my venus flytrap was nothing more than a windowsill decoration. Then yesterday I got a nice surprise in the morning - look, it finally caught a fruit fly! Yes! Devour that little sucker >:D

I have encountered so many wasps this summer that my fear of them has disappeared
This little fella has been sitting on my eggplant for the past three days. I thought he was a goner, but boy was I wrong. The second I poked him with a popsicle stick, he flinched, turned his back toward me and went back to his napping marathon

Ashley just went upstairs for a nap, providing me with a good opportunity to After-bite my five itchy mosquito bites and do some much needed research.
New garden plan:
Trying out a new mix of SFG and conventional method consisting of rows of vegetables contained in tight spaces. For example, three lettuce heads in every 12'' x 24'' area and one eggplant/pepper/tomato in every 9'' x 9'' area.

This may solve the flea beetle problem my eggplants are experiencing:

I'll probably start with the water-garlic spray and resort to growing dill everywhere if the former doesn't work well
Leaf lettuce seedlings aren't sprouting:
Need to pregerm them indoors rather than outdoors like the current batches because the greenhouse is way above the maximum germination temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.

After ten years of loving care our magnolia tree has encountered its first (and probably last) problem: magnolia scale. It looks like the insects are eating our tree live.

I haven't seen these dumb little june bugs in ages! Seeing this one made me reminisce the good old times when they were in abundance, making their way through the fireplace and heading straight for our lights "fizzzzzzz" and then making the entire house smell like burnt toast. Yum
